WESST Executive Meeting (EM)

EM has brought together newly elected officers of student organizations with more senior members from across Western Canada for a combination of sessions, seminars, and round-table discussions. This unique mentor-ship opportunity helps societies grow and develop every year by helping ensure that progress transfers over to each year’s new executive.
WESST Annual General Meeting and Retreat (AGMR)
Typically hosted in October
More than 70 student leaders from the eleven engineering universities in Western Canada attend this event which encourages collaboration on topics such as student issues, leadership development, and future engineering student governance. Event activities include the WESST Annual General Meeting, leadership development and organization management sessions, and team-building exercises. This all fosters further inspiration to improve student governance, resulting in more competent and socially aware engineers.
CFES President Meeting (PM)
Typically hosted in September
The CFES President’s meeting is an intimate gathering between the CFES Board of Directors, the National Executive, and members. Every Fall, this meeting brings together engineering student leaders from across Canada to discuss, engage, and share ideas and experiences. This meeting serves as an introduction to the CFES and a chance to deeply understand your role as a member and stakeholder of the organization, a chance to network with fellow engineering societies, informational sessions, and preparation for Congress.
CFES Canadian Engineering Leadership Conference
Typically hosted in January
The Canadian Engineering Leadership Conference is an annual, bi-lingual, student-run conference that has two primary objectives. The first is that CELC is the annual general meeting of the CFES and the second is that it provides a platform from which students can collaborate with and learn from our industry partners, sponsors, and fellow students. Attracting between 150 and 200 delegates from over 40 engineering schools, CELC is a great opportunity to reach out and engage engineering student leaders from every institution and field of engineering.
Conference on Diversity in Engineering

The Conference on Diversity in Engineering (CDE) aims to develop knowledge surrounding the variety of individuals, cultures and perspectives found within engineering communities. CDE further aims to instill a notion of positivity and togetherness in creating spaces that value the differences between groups of engineering students and professionals.
Conference on Sustainability in Engineering
Typically hosted in February
The Conference on Sustainability in Engineering (CSE) is a three-day national conference to educate and engage engineering students on issues of sustainability and how they can tackle it within their engineering career and everyday life.
Regina Engineering Competition
Typically hosted in November
The Regina Engineering Competition provides an opportunity for undergraduate engineering students to compete in eight categories to test their design and creativity skills. The categories include Junior Design, Senior Design, Innovative Design, Engineering Consulting, Parliamentary Debate, Re-engineering, Programming, and Engineering Communication. Winners of the competitions will have the opportunity to represent UofR at the Western Engineering Competition.
Western Engineering Competition
Typically hosted in January
The Western Engineering Competition (WEC) provides an opportunity for undergraduate engineering students in Western Canada to develop their skills in fast-paced, hands-on engineering challenges, and qualify for the national Canadian Engineering Competition. Those invited must first beat their peers at their own intra-school competition.
Canadian Engineering Competition
Typically hosted in March
Each year the Canadian Engineering Competition (CEC) hosts over 200 innovative and creative engineering undergraduate students from across the country to compete against each other in eight categories. Each competition category at CEC challenges its participants to expand their frame of reference and to identify solutions to problems experienced by our profession.
Those invited must first beat their peers at their own intra-school competition, and then must achieve a top performance at their respective regional competition.
