Engineering Week March 12-16, 2012

Engineering Week is an annual event in the month of March (National Engineering Month) put on by the Regina Engineering Students’ Society. It is an event to celebrate the engineering profession as well as to encourage students to socialize outside of the classroom

Anyone can register a team for E-Week. Teams are composed of 5-6 people, however this event does span an entire week so it is a good idea to have additional members to ensure you don’t miss out on any of the festivities.

The overall winner of all of the events will be crowned the Engineering Week Champion.

Events

Monday March 12: Bowling
at the Golden Mile Bowling Lanes, 4:30pm – 7pm

Have some fun and socialize at the Golden Mile Bowling Lanes

Tuesday March 13: Cooking Competition
at Campbell Collegiate, 5:30pm-9pm

Teams will be given $40 to purchase the supplies to make an appetizer, entree and dessert for three esteemed judges. The event will take place at the Campbell Collegiate Cooking Labs

Wednesday March 14: Engineering Design Competition
at the University of Regina (Location TBA) 5:30pm-9pm

Teams will be presented with a physical engineering problem and will be given the supplies to create a solution. All supplies will be provided, but it is recommended you bring a few extra pairs of scissors and/or knives to work efficiently.

Thursday March 15: Dodgeball Tournament
at Campbell Collegiate 6pm-9pm

Duke it out in a Dodgeball Tournament at Campbell Collegiate’s Gym.

Friday March 16: St. Patrick’s Day Beer in the Lounge
in the Engineering Lounge (ED127) at the University of Regina. Noon-5pm

Drink beer at the finale of engineering week.

Our annual fundraiser has started! Send a pie to support the United Way. Call us or stop by the Lounge to fill out an order form.

RESS Annual General Meeting

Our AGM will be held on Thursday March 3rd at 12:00 pm in ED 114.

Food and refreshments will be provided for those in attendance.

Motions will be accepted through email to president@uofrengineering.com until March 1st. If you would like help writing one, stop by our offices ED 127 or 128.1, or send us an email.

A new constitution has been drafted for approval at the AGM to compliment the changes to the Operations Manual. Please find the new versions below for review. The existing Constitution can be found under the “Policy and Forms” tab above.

November Update

RESS Update November
Greetings fellow engineering students! The Regina Engineering Student Society would like to inform you about our upcoming events and gatherings for the month of November.

Movember
Movember is an international organization that is dedicated to raising money for Prostate Cancer and Mens Health. By growing a moustache for the month of November, pledges are collected and donated to this great cause. The RESS is proud to present the first ever Movember/Moustache Growing Contest. For the entire month of November we are challenging Engineers to grow the gnarliest, greasiest, and most outrageous moustaches possible and to raise as much money as possible. There will be prizes for various moustaches. To register pick up a form in the Engineering Lounge (ED 127) or email charity@uofrengineer.com for more information.

Beerfest*
The biggest party on campus will be happening on November 13. Tickets are $10 and will be sold in the Ridell Center and Engineering Lounge (ED 127) from November 8th to 12th. All drinks will be on special all night for $2 a piece. You will also have the opportunity to purchase beverages for $3 in our licensed line-up! More information can be found on our website or the Facebook event.
First Year Pool Party
On November 15 from 6pm to 9pm there will be a First Year networking event at the Broken Rack. This is a great opportunity to meet and hang out with your fellow first year engineering classmates. Dress up for the Beach Party theme and enjoy free appetizers, free drinks and free pool!

November Beer in the Lounge*
Come celebrate the end of midterms in the Engineering Lounge (ED 127) on November 19 and enjoy $1 beer from noon until 5pm.

Regina Engineering Competition
The Regina Engineering Competition will be on November 20. The winners of REC will represent the University of Regina at the Western Engineering Competition being held at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. Competitions being held are Junior Design (Open to 1st and 2nd year students only), Impromptu Debate, Engineering Communications, Consulting Engineering and Senior Design. Junior Design, Senior Design and Consulting are 4 person teams, Impromptu Debate is 2 people and Communications is 1 or 2. You can register for these events by picking up a form in the Engineering Lounge(ED 127). More information on the competitions can be found on the WEC website. Http://www.wec2011.ca

Engineering Bandannas
Later this month we will receive a shipment of custom RESS bandannas. They will be sold in the lounge for only $5 a piece. Bandeezys are the PERFECT accessory for any engineering related event.

Its that time of year again. October Beerfest is fast approaching.

? The Year 1-4 Reception – September 24, 2009

The RESS (Regina Engineering Students Society) has been hosting the Year 1-4 Reception for 18 years. We will be hosting it again this year on Thursday September 24, 2009, at the Terrace Rotunda/Plaza at Innovation Place 140 – 10 Research Drive.

Last
year we hosted this event in March, but we have decided to return to
hosting it in the fall. This reception will be a semi-formal mixer with
wine and appetizers, and give first year students, upper year students,
engineering faculty members, and industry engineers/sponsors a chance
to network and listen to a guest speaker. There will also be a number
of booths set up to give sponsors and engineering clubs a chance to
expose their organization to students. Thanks to corporate sponsorship, we can continue this opportunity for students and industry professionals.

1-4 Reception

Admission:
Admission to this event is free, but all who wish to attend (excluding the 1st year engineering students) must send their Name, Organization/Company that they will be attending on behalf of, and their email to Sherron Campbell at academic@uofrengineering.com.

We would like to invite all engineering students, the engineering faculty, engineering organizations, and industry engineers. Since this event would not be possible without sponsorship, we encourage sponsorship from the Organization/Company that attendance will be on behalf of.
